Timor – This upcoming Wednesday is 4/20 and it couldn't be a more critical time to take action for marijuana legalization that is equitable for all of us. As a quick reminder: → The failed War on Drugs has deepened racial injustice, shattered neighborhoods, and decimated communities for over 50 years. In sum: It's bullshit. → While marijuana use is roughly equal among Black and white people, Black people are 3.73 times as likely to be arrested for marijuana possession. → Eighteen states and D.C. have already legalized marijuana, yet these extreme racial disparities persist – and communities of color have not benefited from legalization. But legislation – like the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act that just passed in the House – can tackle these racial disparities head-on. And now, it's time for the Senate to follow suit. Join us by sending a message to your senators in support of justice-oriented marijuana legalization that includes similar racial and social justice measures now. |
